I like popcorn but I haven’t quite mastered the art of making it on the stovetop. It’s either I end up burning it or having lots of unpopped kernels, or BOTH! If you’re anything like me then microwave popcorn are for you. This is a super quick method of making popcorn in your microwave. So easy and you know what’s in there unlike the store-bought stuff.
All you need is a microwave,
- a paper bag
- 1/3 cup popping kernels
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. coconut oil (or any other oil you have)
Mix the kernels, salt and oil in a small bowl. Transfer the mixture to the paper bag.
Fold the bag from the top down ¾ of the way, making really tight folds as you go. Shake the bag a little just to get everything all mixed up again.
Microwave for about 2 minutes. Every microwave oven is different. If mine goes beyond 2 minutes, some of the popcorn gets burnt. You can experiment with your own microwave. And of course there are going to be some unpopped kernels but no worries, it’s not going to be a significant amount.
That’s it. So easy. By the way, you can do without the oil though the oil really helps the salt stick to the popcorn.
You can also try different flavors, for example, garlic powder, Parmesan cheese or dried herbs. It’s entirely up to you. Happy popping!
FYI: Your microwave glass plate will get a little messy from the oil. You can prevent this by placing the paper bag in a microwave safe plate or bowl before running it.

Love the look seems very healthy. which setting do i use on the microwave?
Hi Yeukai. Mine is usually set at 100 percent, which I think is 10 for other microwave ovens.
